Do something a little less traditional this Valentine’s day, and try one of these 10 fun date ideas. Most of these fun date ideas are cheap or totally free, but a couple of them would cost a bit of money.
Matt and I recently went to a Royals game (Victoria’s local hockey team), and it was a really fun date! Local hockey games can be a great time, and normally they have other things going on for you to have fun and win prizes. Have a few drinks, cheer on the team, and hit up a pub after.
#2 FAVOURITE FOOD CRAWL DATE
It’s like a pub crawl, but for your favourite food. Find a food that you both love, like desserts, poutine, or sushi, and spend the night trying that food at as as many different places as you can. You’ll have fun, have giant food babies, and you might find a new favourite place to enjoy your favourite food for your next fun date.
#3 NERF GUN FIGHT DATE
No matter how old you get, nerf guns are always fun. You can battle at home, or at a neighbourhood park. You can make things a little interesting by putting a wager on it – loser buys dinner, loser has to go to dinner with a clown nose, or maybe wager on a little something for the bedroom 😉
#4 HOME-MADE PIZZA AND NETFLIX DATE
Set up a mini pizza bar and make home-made personal pizzas together. If you make mini pizzas you can try out more flavour combinations. It doesn’t have to be traditional pizza either, you could try making dessert pizzas too. Once the pizzas are made you can devour them while watching a favourite comedian on Netflix.
- Apple Dessert Pizza with Caramel Cream Cheese Frosting
- Cinnamon Roll Dessert Pizza
- Cherry Cheesecake Dessert Pizza
- Sinful Chocolate Dessert Pizza
- Brownie Dessert Pizza
#5 STARGAZING DATE
Find a nice big area, away from city lights, and bundle up together to watch the stars. I always like to bring an air mattress, blankets and pillows so you can cozy up and keep warm.
Other recommended things to bring along:
- Hot chocolate
- Google Sky Map app
#6 VIDEO GAME DATE
Find a video game you both can enjoy playing. I’m personally not a huge video game person, but occassionally Matt and I will have fun together playing Wii or Lego Batman. There’s tons of different games out there, and you can rent them online through the system if you want to test a game out before fully committing. If you already enjoy playing video games together then great, but if you don’t, you may be surprised at how much fun you can have together after you find something you both enjoy playing.
#7 SKATING DATE
Have a fun skating date together. If you’re pros you can have fun skating circles around other people as you play tag. If you haven’t skated in years you can laugh at each others’ on ice skills and admire the little kids who are way better than you. Finish up this fun date with a nice hot cup of coco.
#8 FORT AND GAMES DATE
Turn your living room into a fort using all of the sheets, blankets, and pillows you own. Bring in some lamps for lighting, and have fun playing board games, or watching tv.
Be a tourist in your own home town. Many people have lived in their city for a long time, and have never been to any of the tourist attractions. As annoying as those tourists can be, those places are popular for a reason, so get some ideas and check out some new things. I’ve lived in Victoria pretty much my whole life and haven’t been to any of the tourist things since I was a kid. I really want to go to Butchart Gardens and Fort Rod Hill. Fisherman’s Wharf, or the museum are other great local ideas too.
#10 ACT LIKE A KID DATE
Run amuck in a mall and have a blast. Visit a toy store and test out the fun toys or ride a bicycle around. Visit a clothing store and try on the most obnoxious things you can find. Grab a flavoured ice cream and window shop. Hide in clothing racks and scare people. Play hide and seek. Embrace your inner child together and you’ll find tons of fun things to do.
