Over the past few months I haven’t been spending too much time with friends because I’ve been focusing on work, my blog, and school. Over the weekend we celebrated one of my friends birthdays, and it was so so nice to get together with everyone and have a lot of fun for the night. I have an amazing group of friends, we always have so much fun together with zero drama. It hasn’t always been like this for me though. Over the years my friends group has gotten smaller and smaller, and one year ago I had to let go of my best friend and roommate.

It was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do, but I am so happy that I did it. We were great friends, and have so many good memories together, but it got to a point where I was sacrificing myself myself to be there for her. I was doing things that I didn’t want to do, constantly worrying about how she was doing, and not focusing on what is important in my life. I tried one final ditch effort to move through things together, and it failed miserably. Over the next couple weeks I knew I had to cut the cord. As much as I loved her, I just couldn’t do it anymore.

It was really hard to do, but I knew I didn’t want someone like that to be an integral part of my life. I want people who bring something into my life and push me to be my best, not someone who brings constant negativity and brings me down. It is so important to surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you. You are a reflection of the people around you. Take a look around, what does that say about you? I didn’t like what it said about me, and I’ve been changing it slowly over time. It doesn’t happen instantly, but slowly as your values and priorities change.

And I’m not trying to say all of my old friends are bad people in any way, because that is not the case at all. I’ve met some amazing people over the years, and I’m so happy they’ve been there for those moments in my life, but it does mean that I have become very selective of those that I let into my close circle and spend the most time with. I think it’s a normal thing to go through. As we get older, and leave highschool/college we slowly lose touch with people. Those that matter the  most to us stay in our lives, and sometimes even those people slip away.

Now I have a small, awesome group of friends. We may not talk all the time, or hang out every weekend, but when we do get together it’s like no time has passed by at all. It’s generally a 2 way street, with us asking about each other while at the same time sharing about ourselves, which I think is so so important in friendships. I’ve also become apart of some great Facebook groups and we help encourage and push each other in our individual projects, and I’ve found it to be really helpful in breaking out into blogging by being a part of such a supportive community.

Sorry this might have been a bit of a ramble, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about more lately, and believe is a really important part in living a happy, stylish, fit life. So be thankful for those great people that you have in your life, and be ok with letting go of those people that bring you down.
